With enormous dedication, a team of some 20 painters is working continuously on the imposing roof structures of Amsterdam Central Station. The work is progressing steadily. The painting work on the south canopy of the station will be completed in a few weeks. Then more than 40,000 m2 of steel and wood of the canopy will be completely covered with a new three-layer paint system of PPG. The monumental canopy will look beautiful again. Moreover, the canopy will again be protected against corrosion and wood rot for many years to come.
After the painting is finished, all that remains is to apply the new bird-proof netting, over an area of over 50,000m2. This phase will start in August.
North cap started
In February of this year, we also started work on the station’s north canopy. Also at this canopy, the entire steel structure and wooden roof sheathing will be given a new paint system.
Safety first
Much of the work is being carried out above the platforms, where some 250,000 people pass through each day. Ensuring their safety and preventing inconvenience has the highest priority. The execution team is fully prepared for this, to the full satisfaction of both the public and the client.
