After the maintenance work on the pillars on the Eastern Scheldt barrier, blasting and preservation of the 32 slides has now begun. Preparations began over a year ago; designing and building the two innovative shielding structures. These structures are necessary to carry out maintenance work safely and without any risk of burdening the environment. In addition, the revolutionary shielding structures ensure the natural violence of North Sea waves and wind loads up to wind force twelve.
Construction in view
Every year for the next eight years, four sliders will be completely grit-blasted and given a new coating system. This will protect the sliders from corrosion for at least 20 years. After the slide is re-preserved, the setup is dismantled and moved to the next slide. Aerial shots of the packed Eastern Scheldt barrier were taken.
