The formal completion date of the renovated railroad bridge at Zaltbommel is scheduled for the end of June 2006 due to its prosperous progress. More than a year and a half earlier than originally planned!
At this time, blasting work is fully completed. The photo clearly shows a complete water treatment plant installed on a pontoon located in the waterway. This cleans the process water needed during the wetted blasting, after which the cleaned water can be discharged into the river.
The cordoning off of the waterway, including permanent shipping guidance by two vessels from the Department of Public Works, proved to be a costly affair. In just under twelve weeks, the costs amounted to over €400,000. The costs were contractually settled with the client entirely on subsequent calculation. Because Van der Ende worked so efficiently, the lead time within which the fairway markings were required was also reduced by many weeks. This enabled us to save client Prorail many hundreds of thousands of euros.
