In February 2016, the combination of Van der Ende Infrastructure and Edilon Sedra Contracting was selected by Rijkswaterstaat through a Best Value Procurement (BVP) tender for the major maintenance of the Wilhelmina Bridge in Deventer. This extensive project with a tight schedule is now in full swing!
What we maintain
We started the maintenance work in June. One of the main project goals besides good workmanship is to minimize disruption to the surrounding area.
Meanwhile, the maintenance is in full swing and has several crucial phases to avoid potential inconvenience. Step by step, we are replacing the asphalt and some sections of the road surface are being completely replaced. We are also replacing the joint crossings and overhauling the iron railings. In addition, we are repairing about 1,000 rivets and the concrete, and replacing the entire coating system over an area of about 25,000 m².
Unique and challenging: blasting in movable, hermetic tent
A unique and challenging part in this special project is the blasting of the two main girders (of the bridge). Each with a length of 200 meters above the roadway. This blasting takes place in a hermetically sealed and movable construction. With 18,000 m³/hour negative pressure, dust emissions are prevented from escaping. Work on the steel arch bridge has now been completed.
Work Trucks
Currently, the work trucks (platforms) are being assembled. Both the ridges and the main tension have their own work platform for grit blasting and one for preservation. These wagons work in an organized fashion behind each other.
