Since the start of work on the railroad bridge in Zaltbommel, Van der Ende has been plagued by burglaries, vandalism, theft and fires. In just a few months, there were dozens of break-ins. Various small items, as well as an aggregate, a compressor and even over 60 driving plates were stolen.
The project leader regularly had to step in because some miscreant had set fire to yet another dumpster. All this led to Van der Ende having to take extreme measures to combat this form of crime. A sort of fortress of containers was erected around the construction site.
These were supposed to keep unwanted visitors out. Because even such a wall of containers proved insufficient, a company was called in to conduct regular surveillances. In addition, an alarm system was installed that immediately relayed movements around and inside the container castle to the security service.
