Deployment of dust-free blasting machine during major maintenance at Tank Terminal in Amsterdam

At a large tank storage terminal in Amsterdam, several tanks are currently under major maintenance. In addition to mechanical work, the tanks are also being repainted. This work is being carried out by Van der Ende Industrie BV, which has been a house contractor at the Terminal for 18 years.

The maintenance work involves the use of an EBE 350 blast machine, which is used to blast a number of wall rings on the inside of a tank wall. The high production rate of this machine and the fact that the mechanical work could continue during the machine blasting ensure that the tight deadlines set to the schedule are met.

Using the dust-free blasting machine, the walls are dry blasted to cleanliness grade Sa 2.5. The perfect pretreatment for applying solvent-free tank linings. The conventional method of dry grit blasting involves a lot of dust and waste, but if the object allows it, we can machine blast large areas of the surface. This not only ensures a perfectly blasted surface and a workable environment for other disciplines, but also reduces the amount of abrasive residue by up to 95% and is also completely dust-free.

After this pretreatment, the blasted surface is first coated with primer, after which the tank shell is finally finished with a layer of Sigma Novaguard 890 in a layer thickness of 500 microns.

Result, a tank lining with a guaranteed life expectancy of at least 20 years.
