Rijkswaterstaat has launched a major program to catch up on overdue maintenance on its more than 5,000 bridges, locks and overpasses.
The project is Kosmos is the sum of the acronym Artwork Maintenance Togetherwith the MarketUnderSystem-orientedContract Control.
In 2007, the first awards took place and clusters of projects were tendered for each province. At an early stage, Van der Ende was asked to participate on an exclusive basis as a project partner in the KWS/ van Hattum & Blankevoort combination ( KWS /VHT ).

We participated in tenders in several provinces. In total, the combination budgeted for more than 150 million euros worth of work divided among various tenders. The combination ultimately emerged as the lowest bidder for the KOSMOS project “Noord Brabant Limburg Nat”.
In this specification more than 20 major objects have been selected for major maintenance. The most important are; Marksluis Sluis no.1, Maasbrug Gennep, Bridges Boschdijk, Brug Hooydonk, Brug Houtens, Brug Oranjelaan, Brug Stad van Gerwen, Beeksebrug, Stadsbrug Venlo, Stuw linne, Stuw Roermond, Stuw Belfeld , Brug Illikhoven, Groenbeek culvert, Brug Stein, Brug Geulle, Sluis and weir Borgharen, Brug Bunde, Wilhelminabrug, Sluis Bosscheveld.

The contract involves over 23 million euros, a substantial portion of which is earmarked for the grit blasting and conservation of said objects.
It is a tough contract with a huge challenge, as the work must be completed by the end of 2008!
