In early April, we received an order from ProRail to paint the platform roofs of the Hollands Spoor national monumental station building in The Hague. Here we are providing approximately 25,000 square meters of steel and 12,000 square meters of wood with a paint system.
The Hague HS Station (Station Hollands Spoor) is the oldest station in The Hague. It was opened in 1843 when the Old Line was extended from Amsterdam from Leiden to The Hague. In 1847, the line was extended to Rotterdam. Since 1893, the station has had a royal waiting room. On the night of Oct. 14-15, 1989, shortly after a restoration, a burglar set fire to the station restaurant. The fire destroyed the platform building and part of the platform roof. The building was later restored to its historic condition.
Now, 21 years later, we have the pleasure of repainting the entire canopy. The complete project will be completed by the end of 2011.
