On Thursday, Feb. 12, Oscar van der Ende received the 2004 Safety Award from manager Xavier Bontemps of Nerefco Europoort Refinery.
This was presented as a token of appreciation for the fact that Van der Ende B.V. had worked at the Nerefco site for eight years without any significant accidents (recordable incidents*). Since 2000, when Van der Ende received the first safety award for four years of working without recordable accidents, a total of 125,000 safe man-hours have been completed. “An achievement we can really be proud of,” said Oscar van der Ende.
Eight years of working safely does not happen by itself. It requires the entire organization from top to bottom to make an effort. Van der Ende’s policy, therefore, is to achieve such performance with all its clients.
* Recordable incidents include lost time accidents (LTI), replacement work accidents (RWI) and first aid cases (MTC). This safety performance was achieved through the safety policies implemented by Nerefco and house contractors. The safety policy emphasizes the development of jointly achievable and verifiable objectives. Nerefco (The Netherlands Refining Company) is a BP and Texaco Joint Venture.
