Recently for a customer we completely preserved a tank in which the product Methanol is stored with a zinc silicate system. Such an application is very critical. The application of a zinc silicate requires a fully Sa 2.5 blasted surface. Before and during the application of the coating, there must be no return to cleanliness. Therefore, we kept the tank under tightly regulated atmospheric conditions with a relative humidity<40% during pre-treatment.
It is also important to keep the layer thickness very well under control, as a zinc silicate tends to crack if applied too thickly. Proper treatment of uneven surfaces (pitting) also requires a specific approach and the efforts of very experienced sprayers. In total, over 2,400 m2, including a complex spider construction under the roof was blasted and conserved. The challenging project was completed very successfully.
