In March 2002, Van der Ende began work on the preservation of the NS Amstel Station in Amsterdam. This project was commissioned by NS Railinfrabeheer B.V.. The work was carried out while passenger, train and subway traffic continued as usual. It was of great importance to the NS that the inconvenience to passengers and trains was kept to an absolute minimum.
The plan of action took this into account. For example, the scaffolding was placed so that trains and subways could depart and arrive undisturbed. Travelers were also considered. Part of the platform was cordoned off each time, leaving sufficient space for getting on and off. However, sometimes it was not possible to reach certain parts without endangering trains, subways or workers.
Therefore, work above the tracks was carried out during several train-free periods. Over a nine-month period, a total of some 23,093m2 of wood and steel was pre-treated and painted. The photo clearly shows the gigantic scale of the project.
