The railroad bridge, built in 1983, partially received a thorough refresh this summer, performed by Van der Ende on behalf of ProRail. All rust was expertly removed and we provided the bridge with new coats of paint. The executed part of the steel is protected again for 20 years.
The work was a challenge in itself, as we had one four-week train-free period available this year, during which the tracks could only be occupied for 1.5 weeks for the work. In those four weeks we tackled an arch, the railing and the top of the bridge. This is definitely not work for people afraid of heights. Safely leashed, walking across the landings of the arch or from the aerial platforms, we work 45 meters above the water of the Lek.
Next year, the underside of the bridge and the other arch are planned.
