ProRail has awarded the contract for the complex renovation of the platform roof at Tilburg station to Van der Ende. In addition to the price, the assessment of the plan of action was decisive for the award.
In the plan of approach the candidates had to explain how they would carry out the painting of the platform roof within the available period. The key points were to keep disruption to users of the station to a minimum and to ensure complete safety for users, workers and passing trains. In addition, the parts to be conserved also had to be made accessible, taking into account the limited load-bearing capacity of the platforms.
Van der Ende’s plan of action, which included an ingenious and well thought-out scaffolding plan, ultimately proved to be the only plan that met ProRail’s stringent requirements.
The preservation work, consisting of partially blasting the steel structure and painting the approximately 14,000 m2 of steel and wood of the platform roof, will begin in mid-July 2017. At the same time, all windows in the glass streets on the roof will be replaced. The total value for the contract is €3.1 million excluding VAT.
Completion of the work is scheduled for November 2018. During construction, the station will continue to operate as usual. The stores and catering establishments present will remain easily accessible.
