In June 2000, Van der Ende blasting and painting works was commissioned by the Rijkswaterstaat Construction Service to completely recondition roller door 3 of the Western Lock in Terneuzen. In January 2001, the project was delivered to the full satisfaction of the Rijkswaterstaat Construction Department. In the intervening period, the work was carried out with an enormous effort of people and equipment. The lock gate was placed in a lock dock measuring 60 x 20 x 25 meters and then completely installed in steel scaffolding by Spreeuwenberg Steigerbouw B.V.
The canopy clearly visible in the photo was installed completely seamlessly over the dock. Combined with the necessary dust extractors, the very strict environmental requirements could be met. The entire work was carried out under full quality assurance.
In total, more than 800 tons of blasting grit, 12,000 liters of paint and over 150,000 liters of gas oil were consumed. The total area to be treated was almost 11,000m², including 40 ballast tanks. The entire door was Sa 2½ grit blasted and then given three coats of high build epoxy coating with a layer thickness of 380µm.
