After months of intensive preparation, a tremendous feat was accomplished in weekend of March 25 and 26 by more than 50 professionals from our subcontractors Harsco Infra Structure and Qumey Metaal B.V. .
Over 180 tons of scaffolding material was processed in six shifts in a 52-hour out-of-service shift, during which the bridge was completely at our disposal with both tracks. Also, 360 meters of tear sheets were removed. After de-rusting and canning of the supporting structure, platform gratings will replace these. To carry out the preservation work, the arch bridge will be completely fitted with scaffolding and shrink wrap in stages . Within this hermetically sealed work area, a negative pressure is created using extraction equipment. Van der Ende will then gritblast the entire arch bridge that has been coated with a lead-based paint system and apply a new 3-layer paint system.
Work will be completed by the end of October.
