Van der Ende wants to realize its projects in a sustainable way. ProRail’s initiative to reward companies that set great store by sustainability therefore appealed to us greatly. By means of a certificate in accordance with the CO2 performance ladder, companies can demonstrate that they have insight into their carbon footprint and that they are taking measures to reduce it. The higher the level on the ladder, the more effort the company has to make. However, this in turn translates into a greater advantage when awarding works.
In January 2011 we started adjusting the management system and collecting information about our own carbon footprint. All this was incorporated into a portfolio that was presented to the certifying body for assessment. After checking the portfolio and completing the audit at our office, on March 16, 2011, we were the first metal conservator to receive a level 3 certificate on the ladder.
We are this certificate as a first stepping stone. The goal is to reach the highest step (level 5) by the end of this year. This means that in the coming period we will investigate ways to reduce CO2 emissions even further.
