Because of the problems BP was having with corrosion at the head of the distillation tower, parts of the wall had to be replaced in order to continue to ensure the safe operation of the tower, BP, after consulting with Van der Ende, opted for a high-quality solution in the form of a metallic coating.
Addressing corrosion distillation tower – TSA tower T-2202
To combat severe corrosion at the head of distillation tower T-2202 at BP Refinery Europoort, a high-quality Thermal Spray Aluminum (TSA) coating was chosen. A 300 micron thick aluminum coating was applied during the Turn Around, protecting the tower for years to come. Thanks to tight planning and close cooperation, the project was successfully completed within the specified time.
Use Thermal Spray Aluminum
During the Turn Around, the head of the tower was pre-treated to the correct cleanliness level, after which a 300 micron thick aluminum layer was applied to the surface using Thermal Spray Aluminum (TSA). Because of all the work around the tower, the planning and execution was very critical. Through good planning and cooperation with the client, we were able to complete the project within the time available. The head of the tower is again protected from corrosion for many years….
