The Dutch railroad network has a length of nearly 3,000 km. Above most of the railroad tracks is an electricity network. Every 75 meters or so there is a so-called catenary support structure, from which the catenary network is suspended. The steel area per support structure varies from approximately 20 m2 to as much as 200m2.
On average, yokes are painted once every 20 years.

Van der Ende has painted hundreds of thousands of square meters on behalf of Prorail since 1992.
The work is physically demanding and requires a lot from the painters. Accessibility is difficult. The painters always work on a leash because of the danger of falling.
The work will be carried out mainly at night. During the work, the overhead line is de-energized and the tracks are taken out of service. The period of decommissioning is of very short duration, often not more than net 3 hours.
During execution, several safety personnel are present to supervise the painters and to ensure that work is done only in stress-free areas. When appropriate, aerial platforms or rapid construction scaffolding are also used.
Only a few companies in the Netherlands have been selected by Prorail to perform this special work. Van der Ende is proud to have the longest track record within Prorail for the preservation of catenary support structures.
