During most of the work, train traffic was able to use the railroad bridge as usual. For a small part of the work, including the construction of the scaffolding, the track’s out-of-service hours were used.
Rhine bridge renovation Oosterbeek
Van der Ende performed a large-scale blasting and preservation job on the Oosterbeek Rhine Bridge on behalf of ProRail. The bridge, consisting of a large arch span and 7 abutments, was carefully treated with an eye for the surrounding nature. During the work, train traffic largely continued. The old Flintcote coating was removed and replaced by a durable preservation system in the characteristic green color.
Eye for nature and environment
Commissioned by ProRail Infraprojecten Regio NoordOost, Van der Ende started blasting and preserving the Rijnbrug in Oosterbeek in March 2011. A steel railroad bridge consisting of a large main span and 7 abutments. Those ridges are located above the floodplain, which is designated as a nature reserve.

Distinctive green color
The arch bridge and the lower parts of the abutments were completely blast cleaned to Sa 2.5. Here a thick old tar-like coating (Flintcote) was removed, which had been applied in layers as thick as 1 centimeter. The upper parts of the abutments were locally pretreated. The total was then given a new preservation system, in the characteristic green color.
