The Hague Hollands Spoor

Van der Ende restored the painting of The Hague Hollands Spoor station to its original state on behalf of ProRail. In a major two-year renovation project, over 40,000 sq. ft. of wood and steel were treated, with minimal inconvenience to passengers and train traffic. Thanks to tight planning and craftsmanship, the project was completed four months early, restoring this landmark station to its distinctive appearance.

Van der Ende restored the paintwork in The Hague Hollands Spoor station to its original state on behalf of ProRail. This successfully concluded a two-year project.

A lot of material was needed for this project: 10,320 liters of environmentally friendly paint, 750 brushes, 800 meters of sandpaper, 1,200 meters of masking tape and 60 kilos of putty. In 31,000 man hours, an area of over 40,000 m2 of wood and steel was painted.

Delivered four months early

The fresh coat of paint accentuates the monumental appearance and architectural features. The station has been restored to its former glory, making it a landmark point in The Hague to be proud of.

An important part of the contract between ProRail and Van der Ende was the latter’s total responsibility for the project: from design to complete execution.

The result turned out to be a great success, especially since we were able to deliver it more than four months early.

An overview of key contractual obligations:

Cleaning, pretreating and preserving the station roofs above the tracks and
platforms, including end walls, along gables and roof sheathing.
The design, manufacture, assembly, dismantling and disposal of scaffolding structures.
The detail engineering for the purpose of modifying the catenary system.
Modifying the suspension of the 150KV overhead lines across the various tracks and various catenary structures.
Taking care of NVW/RLN00128 duties prior to and during out-of-service hours.
Performing and recording work correctly according to the company’s own quality
and safety management system in accordance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and VCA-P 2008/5.1.
