Technique dry blasting

Grit blasting, also known as dry blasting, is still one of the most widely used techniques for cleaning or preparing surfaces of materials such as steel or concrete for the application of protective coatings. This technique uses compressed air to which abrasive media is added. This allows the removal of unwanted layers such as mill scale, rust, old coatings, dirt and other contaminants. Grit blasting creates a clean and rough surface, which optimizes the adhesion and performance of the paint system.

Expertise and advanced equipment

Van der Ende is an expert in grit blasting. With an extensive fleet of modern blasting equipment, including advanced and more durable Stage V & VI compressors and various types of grit blasting equipment, we can handle virtually any application. Whether cleaning steel, concrete or other hard surfaces, we have the resources and knowledge to make any blasting project a success.

Safe, fast and effective blasting

Our experienced blasters are well trained and possess the necessary skills to thoroughly and efficiently blast even the most challenging surfaces. Our optimized processes and equipment allow us to work safely, quickly and effectively, resulting in short turnaround times and optimal quality.

Benefits of dry blasting

1

Cleanliness

Grit blasting effectively removes mill scale, rust, old paint, dirt and other contaminants. This creates a very clean surface (depending on the desired degree of cleanliness), which ensures optimal performance of applied coatings.
2

Roughness

The process creates a rough surface, which ensures good mechanical adhesion of protective coatings. This extends the life and durability of the applied coatings.
3

Efficient

Grit blasting is a fast and efficient process, allowing large areas to be treated in a relatively short time.
4

Versatile

This technique can be applied to a wide range of materials, including steel, concrete, wood and other hard surfaces. It is applicable within surface treatment in very many situations.
5

Flexible

Grit blasting can be tailored to specific project requirements and cleanliness levels by selecting the type and size of abrasive media, as well as the blast pressure.
6

Improved security

Grit blasting helps detect cracks, weld defects and other structural problems that would otherwise go unnoticed. This allows preventive maintenance measures to be taken to ensure the integrity and safety of objects.

Powerful alternative blasting techniques

Although dry grit blasting is widely applicable and offers several advantages, this technique cannot be used everywhere. For example because of the dust that is released during this process. Therefore Van der Ende also offers other blasting techniques such as wet blasting, torbo blasting and mechanical dust-free blasting.

Possible reasons for choosing one of the alternative blasting techniques:

  • Relatively high amount of waste to dispose of unless the grit is recycled. However, recyclable grit is more expensive to purchase, more labor intensive and poses a greater risk of quality defects in some situations, leading to a significantly higher cost.
  • Regular grit blasting produces a relatively large amount of dust in the immediate area, which can cause a nuisance and, as a result, dust emissions often need to be controlled with shielding measures and dust extraction.
