Following the problems BP experienced with corrosion on the head of the distillation tower – to guarantee the continued safe operation of the tower parts of the wall had to be replaced – BP after consultation with Van der Ende opted for a high quality solution in the shape of a metallic coating.

During the turn around the head of the tower was pre-treated to the correct cleanliness level, after which a 300 micron thick aluminium coat was applied to the surface with Thermal Spray Aluminium (TSA).

Because of all the work around the tower, the planning and execution were very critical. By co-operating with the client and a good schedule we were able to complete the project in time. The head of the tower is now protected against corrosion for many years to come.
